A Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process and ensuring production readiness, technological development, research, and technical advancement. The primary goal is to ensure efficient manufacturing operations, adequate production resources, the achievement of production targets, and the maintenance of quality standards. Additionally, they oversee maintenance activities and ensure the technical operability of equipment. Overall, the role of the Production Manager is to ensure the efficient and effective production of goods or services while upholding quality standards, optimising resources, and maximising productivity.
Depending on the organisation, they may be responsible for scheduling work plans, estimating costs, and preparing budgets. They may also be accountable for customer care and maintaining customer relationships.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develops production plans, sets priorities, and creates strategies to optimise productivity and meet customer requirements.
- Coordinates and allocates resources such as equipment, materials, and labour to ensure smooth operations and maximum utilisation.
- Implements measures to ensure quality, maintains high production standards, and meets product specifications. This includes monitoring processes, conducting inspections, and addressing any quality issues.
- Optimises production costs through cost analysis, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
- Leads and supervises production teams, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure their performance and productivity.
- Ensures that production processes comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and provide employees with a safe working environment.
- Pursues continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimise processes, implementing lean manufacturing principles, and fostering innovation in the production environment
- Collaborates with various departments, such as procurement, logistics, and quality control, to ensure efficient coordination and alignment of the entire production process.
