Occupational Health and Safety Manager

An Occupational Health and Safety Manager ensures alignment of company processes with legislative requirements in the field of workplace safety and health. He/she is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations. He/she conducts training, investigates accidents and incidents, and provides recommendations for improvements to create a safe and compliant working environment.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develops, updates, and implements health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Monitors changes in occupational health and safety requirements.
• Identifies potential hazards and takes appropriate measures for their elimination. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of occupational health and safety programmes.
• Ensures that appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, properly used, and regularly maintained.
• Records and investigates workplace accidents and incidents to determine causes and implement corrective actions. Ensures that all work-related injuries, illnesses, and diseases are accurately documented and reported.
• Coordinates or conducts occupational health and safety audits and inspections. Communicates with authorities regarding occupational health and safety matters.
• Trains employees and management on health and safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practises.
• Oversees environmental, health, and safety initiatives, including waste management and handling of hazardous materials

Necessary Skills / Requirements and Skills:

• Higher education in the field of occupational health and safety, environmental protection, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) are crucial.
• Profound knowledge of safety regulations and laws
• Effective communication and precise expression for safety training, report writing, occupational health and safety audits, as well as communication with other departments.
• The ability to analyse risks and develop practical solutions, attention to detail, and a degree of foresight to prevent incidents
• Proficiency in using safety software and tools for data analysis, incident reporting, and record-keeping
• Precision and consistency in maintaining accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and corrective actions
